What is microsuction?

Microsuction is a dry and safe technique used to clean the ears. By using a suction tube and tip we can gently remove excess wax. At ClearEar, we use modern equipment that allows us to access even the deepest wax. This method is used by ENT specialists globally. All our staff are ENT trained professionals with multiple years of experience. The dry nature of this procedure allows those with a perforated eardrum or infections to also be treated

Is microsuction painful?

Microsuction in general is an extremely straightforward, painless and safe procedure. As with any procedure there are some potential minor risks to be aware of such as: exacerbating tinnitus symptoms, mildly uncomfortable due to the loud noise from suction and dizziness (rare). We communicate with you through the procedure to ensure you are comfortable throughout.

At ClearEar, our team are ENT trained professionals who have carried out this procedure more times than they would care to admit! You are in safe hands and will receive expert care.

Do I need to use ear wax softening drops beforehand?

Yes, it is always recommended and preferred to use some ear wax softening drops (e.g. Cerumol) prior to your appointment. This is especailly true for those who have significantly impacted wax. In an ideal world you would allow a minimum of 2 days of drops to soften the wax adequately. 2-3 drops in the effected ear or ears is sufficient.

We understand, however, that not everyone has the time to utilise drops and for impacted wax it can often worsen symptoms. At ClearEar, we will always endeavour to accommodate you as best we can.
